SCOFFING a hot curry could help you win the battle of the bulge.
And the discovery may help to manage obesity and other related health complications such as Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular diseases.
A team at the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy found that dietary capsaicin suppresses highfat- diet-induced obesity.
They are hoping to make curry based diet pills.
Vivek Krishnan, a graduate student in the team, said: “The temptation to eat fatty foods is often so strong that, for many, it can override or overpower any dietary restrictions.
“As a solution to this problem, we developed a novel approach to stimulate energy metabolism without the need to restrict calorie intake.”
The breakthrough came during experiments on mice. Dietary capsaicin did not cut food or water intake but increased fat burning.
Mr Krishnan added the long term goal was to prevent and treat obesity. He said developing a natural dietary supplement was already under way in the their labs
