Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Sunday asked the
officials concerned to complete all the projects being implemented under the
Annual Development Programme (ADP) within the stipulated time maintaining the
quality.
He made the directives at a meeting with the Development and Planning Cell chiefs held at the NEC Conference Room of the Planning Commission.
Stressing minimising the misuse of funds in all the projects, the Planning Minister said if appropriate decisions are taken in implementing a project, there will be no need to increase the project time-frame.
“If project duration is not increased, there’ll be no possibility to increase the cost of the project that will help cut the misuse of project fund,” he added.
Briefing about the nature of projects coming in the next fiscal, Mustafa Kamal said the government has given emphasis on investment in the infrastructure sector to increase the country’s economic growth and productivity.
“We also invest in the education, human resources development and ICT projects. We’ll take more projects on poverty elimination and social safety net programme,” he said.
The Planning Minister asked the officials concerned to be careful about distribution of projects so that projects could be fairly taken across the country.
Fair distribution of projects must be ensured, he said adding that priority should be given on the people of coastal belt, erosion affected areas, hoar region and hill tracts. “We’ll take more projects in these areas for the country’s socioeconomic development.”
Mustafa Kamal stressed the need for taking more research projects on agriculture and animal resources aiming to sustain the country’s food security.
Planning Secretary Shofiqul Azam and senior officials of the different ministries were present at the meeting.
