A growing disparity between the number of Filipinos in private and public educational institutions has prompted private institutions to step in to help Filipinos gain access to high quality education.
According to the latest survey conducted by the National Statistics Coordination Board more than 1.6 million primary students in the Philippines are enrolled in public schools while only 408,747 are in private schools.
The stark difference in public versus private school enrollment increases at the elementary level where more than 13 million students are enrolled in public schools with approximately 1.2 million in private institutions. The same disparity can be seen among students in the secondary level with more than 5.5 million students in public schools and approximately 1.4 million in private schools, respectively.
One of the major contributors to the discrepancy is cost. For most Filipinos in the lower and middle-income brackets, the opportunity to enroll their children in private institutions remains an elusive dream due to cost.
As a result many Filipino parents are on the hunt for scholarship programs that can help finance the cost of a high quality education.
This need is what TaskUs Philippines, the fastest growing outsourcing company in the U.S., is trying to address through its enhanced scholarship program in the Philippines.
For almost three years now, TaskUs has been providing an enhanced scholarship program that gives each child P100,000 per year to employees with children.
The amount aims to cover for the child’s tuition and miscellaneous fees, uniforms, books, school supplies and fees for tutorial lessons and extra-curricular activities.
The TaskUs scholarship allows employees to take care of their families’ important needs and worry less while at work.
“Giving an opportunity to greatly improve the lives and well-being of our employees and their families is a priority. We want to help them by giving the children of our parent-employees a scholarship program where they can maximize the potentials of their kids both through academic and extra-curricular activities,” Bryce Maddock, CEO and Co-founder of TaskUs said.
A total of 19 employees were granted with the scholarship for their children. As a result, the program has successfully achieved its goal of giving the employees a chance to send their children to better schools.
TaskUs is a company that provides the world’s leading innovators with “ridiculously good” customer care and back office support. The company started in the Philippines with a small team of five members and has grown to more than 1,500 employees catering to international companies and organizations.
