A three-day-long "Bou Mela ", a gathering of Hindu housewives, began on Wednesday at Joyrampur village in Sonargaon Upazila of Narayanganj.
This traditional fair takes place annually under a 100-year-old banyan tree for the past 90 years, said members of the local Hindu community.
During a visit to the site, a number of Hindu women were seen worshiping under the banyan tree. They brought sacrificial goats, pigeons and a lot of seasonal fruits with them to offer the goddess.
Kishor Kumar Sarkar, member of the fair organising committee, said a lot of women from all over the country are attending the fair this year due to good weather.
Abu Naser Bhuiyan, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, said a number of law enforcement members have been deployed at the fairground to ensure security of the attending women.
