Terming Editors’ Council’s statement on media freedom unfortunate biased
and motivated, the Information Ministry yesterday said the country’s
mass media are now enjoying the maximum freedom in memorable time,
reports UNB.
In an official release, the ministry said, “The Editors’ Council’s
yesterday’s (Tuesday’s) statement on media freedom is devoid of reality,
misrepresentation of truth, biased, motivated and untoward.”
Mentioning that the government led by Sheikh Hasina believes in full freedom of the media, it said the government is always trying to keep the media active, open and dynamic as the media and democracy are supplementary to each other.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Editors’ Council sought more ‘responsible and supportive’ role from the government in preserving the freedom, objectivity and neutrality of all the media, including the newspapers.
